The Evolution of Pizza Toppings

Pizza toppings have evolved significantly over time, reflecting regional tastes and culinary creativity. While traditional Neapolitan pizzas focus on simple, high-quality ingredients, American pizzas often boast a variety of toppings, from classic pepperoni to exotic combinations like buffalo chicken and pineapple. This evolution showcases pizza's adaptability and its potential for endless customization.

Why Locals Love It

Anthony Guichardo ★★★★★

Anthony’s direct tip—"Order the Margherita and thank me later"—sums up why locals return: the classic pie is a reliable bookmark for the menu. That Margherita, with bright sauce, fresh cheese and a crisp rim, becomes the baseline for everyone else you try. For neighbors looking for a consistent, pizza-first meal, that kind of single-item devotion signals a kitchen that gets the fundamentals right and keeps folks coming back.

Food of CT ★★★★★

Food of CT noticed the thin, well‑baked crust and the kitchen’s steady hand after reopening: "crust was thin and crispy." That texture shows up across pies and is part of the place’s local appeal. When a crust holds up at the table and for takeout, it helps the whole community treat Haven as both a quick slice stop and a spot for a proper meal, especially for diners who love a bright, crunchy base to their toppings.

Drilon Tershalla, CPA, MST ★★★★★

Drilon’s praise for the dessert—calling it "the best dessert we've ever tried"—highlights another reason locals recommend Haven: the kitchen cares about finishings as much as pies. When a neighborhood pizzeria nails both starters and a memorable dessert, it becomes more than a pizza place; it becomes the kind of place families choose for birthdays, guests and small celebrations because the whole meal can impress from appetizer to afters.

"My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful restaurant in Prospect, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the delicious food to the attentive service, our first visit was so enjoyable that we are already planning our return! To start, we ordered the Zucchini Chips and the Caesar Salad. Both appetizers were absolutely delightful! The Zucchini Chips were crispy and flavorful, making for a perfect shared dish, while the Caesar Salad was fresh and well-balanced. For our main course, we chose the Shrimp Risotto and the Tuscan Shrimp. Each dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and showcasing the chef's skill. The Shrimp Risotto was creamy and rich, while the Tuscan Shrimp was savory and satisfying. To top off our meal, we were recommended The Napeletana for dessert, and I can confidently say it was the best dessert we've ever tried. It’s an absolute must-have!"

"The food is very good, but I have to admit I liked it better before it shut down for a few years. The menu was bigger, and I miss being able to order different size pizzas depending on how many we are feeding. A few weeks ago, I made pasta at home and wanted garlic bread with cheese to go with it. I was disappointed to find it was basically pizza with garlic and cheese and not actual garlic bread. But overall it's above average as far as the quality and taste of the food."

Detroit's Cheesy Edges

Detroit-style pizza is renowned for its rectangular shape, thick airy crust, and crispy cheese edges. Baked in well-oiled steel pans originally used for car manufacturing, this pizza's unique characteristics result from its unconventional baking method. The caramelized cheese that extends to the edges creates a distinct flavor and texture, making it a favorite in the Midwest and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does their pizza crust taste like?

The crust is thin and crispy with a quick wood‑fired char. Kids notice a snappy edge and a soft, floppy center on longer slices, so each bite mixes crunchy rim and tender dough.

Is the Margherita pizza saucy or light on sauce?

The Margherita has a bright tomato sauce that reviewers loved. It’s balanced so the cheese and crisp crust still shine; kids will taste tangy tomato with mellow melted cheese.

Are the wings spicy or mild?

Wings are described as very crispy and meaty; some guests called them among the best they’ve had. If a wing is sauced, expect savory, not overpowering heat unless you ask for a spicy topping.

What are the garlic knots like?

Garlic knots come out soft and fresh, with a garlicky, buttery coating. They’re easy to share and are a sweet, simple favorite for kids who like warm, pillowy bread with flavor.

Do they offer any vegetarian choices?

Yes. Vegetables appear on pizzas and small plates—examples include Margherita, asparagus and spinach florentine—and reviewers often mention solid vegetarian options like cheese pies and salads.

Is the clam pizza strongly fishy?

Clam pizza is listed on the menu previews and tends to be more briny than fishy; clams add a salty ocean note that pairs with cheese and sauce rather than dominating the pie.

Does the menu in Prospect, CT include non-pizza entrees?

Yes. Reviews mention pastas like burrata rigatoni and dishes such as shrimp risotto and Tuscan shrimp, so there are comforting Italian entrees beyond pizza.

Is the pizza here similar to New Haven style?

Reviewers compare the pies to regional favorites: thin crust, charred edges and a foldable slice are part of the experience. Expect a crisp bite with some floppy fold toward the center.

Will leftovers keep the crust texture for the ride home?

Guests report takeout staying flavorful and retaining good texture. The thin, crisp crust tends to travel well; when you reheat, a quick oven warm restores crunch without drying toppings.

What pizzas are most popular at Haven Pizzeria Napoletana?

From the menu, people often pick Cheese Pizza, Margherita Pizza, Meat Lover, Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza, Peppers, Clam Pizza. Reviews highlight consistency more than novelty, so these are safe, crowd-pleasing choices.
